North Carolina Mountain Property - Featured Lot

Plot plan for Lot 24 - North Carolina Mountain Property

Our featured lot for October is Lot 24. This is a corner lot with Woodchuck Lane on one side and Magic Creek Lane on the other and is located in Phase IV. This lot has distant mountain views to the West and South west. The size of this lot is 1.04 acres and is priced right at $26,000. Remember that we offer owner financing and we also offer a 10% discount for cash (or for those who obtain their own financing). This lot is a great way to enjoy your North Carolina Mountain Property.

When people start thinking about buying a piece of Smoky Mountain Land, everyone has different tastes. Some people like great views and others are more interested in privacy. Some like a more flat lot and others want a rugged terrain. Lot 24 has a little of something for everyone. It is less than 200 feet from the common area which is situated along a pleasant and peaceful creek. The lot has a gentle slope down from the road and it is heavily wooded. The lot offers several possibilities for house location and placement.

Haven Heights Newsletter

Volume 2, Number 1

This month I am doing something a little different with our newsletter. I will update everyone about Haven Heights, but I will also give you some information about the areas that
surround our development. Read on and check out what is happening in the North Carolina Mountain Real Estate.

The owners of Lots 82-83 are almost finished with there Deltec Home. It is an outstanding addition to the Haven Heights Subdivision. The Deltec company is located in Asheville where they build the wall units, floor trusses and roof trusses. They also have a completed home that is located in Asheville. When building is started, it only takes a short time to have the structure “dried in”. This means that the home is not subjected to the weather and the problems associated with wood and materials getting wet or baked by the sun. This new home looks great in the North Carolina Mountain Property.

The owners of lot 40 have started construction on their home and the last time I was at the property it was looking pretty good. The walls are up and the roof is on. Things are coming right along at this Mountain Real Estate North Carolina.

The leaves are back on the trees and spring is in the air. Everything popped out and started growing like crazy with all of the rain and warm weather that we are having lately. Above is a picture of the pond area—we have been clearing the banks of this common area so all can enjoy the NC Mountain Property.

I am sure that most of you are aware that Haven Heights is very close to Lake James but, did you know that Lake James also has a state run park? Lake James is a large reservoir ( about 10 square miles with 150 miles of shoreline) in the mountains of Western North Carolina Realty and it is a great place to satisfy those desires to get out on the water to fish, water ski or whatever! The lake was created by Duke Power between 1916-1923 as a hydro-electric project. It still generates power today and is the uppermost lake on the Catawba River system. The state park at the lake has five miles of beaches, several camping spots and walking trails.

The campgrounds are ideal for tent campers. A nice bathhouse and two disabled-access campsites, campsites 19 and 20, are immediately adjacent to the walk-in parking area. A hilltop field backs the parking area, and a foot trail leads to the balance of the campsites. The Lake James area and state park are only about 20 minutes from the Haven Heights Development.

Biltmore Estates

Western North Carolina Realty has some of the most beautiful mountain areas in the east coast states. Asheville is the home of the famous Biltmore Estate which was started in 1895 by George Washington Vanderbilt. The original estate was 125,000 acres! Today you can tour the home and see the beauty of that era. The estate has several special times of the year when they really put on a display. The festival of flowers in April and early May is when the gardens are bursting with color and fragrance.

Enjoy live music in the gardens and in Biltmore House along with bright floral displays, springtime dining specials, and unique shopping opportunities. Be one of the first to see four of the most grand guest rooms in Biltmore House. Meticulously restored to their original appearance, the Louis XV Suite on the Second Floor showcases what made Biltmore House a home: stories about the people who lived in and loved America's largest home. You can enjoy the new stories with their new audio guide. The Christmas season is a special event at the Biltmore Estate.

Share the magic of Christmas at The Biltmore with your loved ones this holiday season. Enjoy America's largest home decorated with dozens of Christmas trees, hundreds of wreaths, bows, and poinsettias; miles of evergreen garland; thousands of ornaments, tinsel, and beading; and a magnificent 35-foot Fraser fir.

Asheville also has some quaint downtown areas that are the result of the arts and crafts history of this great city. Here are some excerpts from the Official Asheville website.

Asheville is about a 35 to 40 minute drive from the mountain real estate North Carolina located at the Haven Heights Subdivision. Check our available lots on the website and click on “Lot Surveys” then click “Download PDF”.

Maggie Valley is another wonderful tourist attraction with many things to do and see. The area is known for its many small specialty and antique shops, restaurants and they even have a really nice antique auto museum "Wheels Through Time".

It is a nationally recognized antique American motorcycle and automobile museum. It also has a great ski slope and places where you can “Tube” down a snow covered slope. Both the ski and tube slope have snow machines so they never run out of the white stuff! (as long as it is cold enough) Maggie Valley is also the home of "Ghost Town in the Sky", a recreated western village with live gun fights and can-can girls, mountain crafts and food.

There's also trout fishing in Jonathan Creek, which flows down through Maggie Valley, and lots more. Golfers will love the Maggie Valley Golf Course Club, open to the public, with 18 breathtaking holes. Starting in mid-December, Cataloochee Ski Area slopes open for the general public. If you get there and want to take a break from skiing, you can always ride horses at Queen's Farm Riding Stables, as long as it's not snowing, or go hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

There is an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway at the head of Soco Gap, on the way to Cherokee. Don't miss Mile High Overlook on the parkway. It is stunning and the only sounds you can hear is the wind blowing. The restaurants in Maggie Valley are great. Don't miss Snappy's or J. Arthurs. Snappy's is Italian, very casual, J. Arthurs Restaurant is more upscale. There's also Eaglenest Entertainment, with some great concerts, etc. during the year, and Carolina Nights Dinner Theater provides excellent entertainment six months of the year.

Maggie Valley is approximately a 1-1/2 hour drive from the Haven Heights mountain property NC.

Blue Ridge Parkway

Each piece of Mountain Property North Carolina that we sell at Haven Heights comes with a free pass to one of the greatest touring roads in this part of the county, the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Actually you don’t need a pass—the Blue Ridge Parkway has free access for everyone) The Blue Ridge Parkway in the spring, summer and fall is all aglow with colors and things to see. It is the one of the top places for motor cycle touring.

The Parkway always has a group of bikes riding along taking in the beautiful Mountain Real Estate North Carolina. Some of the bikes are towing small trailers and some may even be three wheeled wonders! The Parkway is part of the National Park Service and it is always well maintained. There are many overlooks and small towns to visit. A trip down the Parkway is always a slow paced and relaxing tour; make it part of your list of things to do in Western North Carolina. Sometimes there is road construction on the Parkway so you may want to check online to prevent any detours.

Outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway one of America’s favorite drives! The speed limit is only 45 mph but at that speed you get a chance to see more that mother nature has to offer. 469 miles of old farmsteads, historic structures and endless vistas are there for you to see.

The Parkway has several recreation areas. These areas have visitor centers, picnic areas, camp grounds, trails and lodges, restaurants, and other facilities.

Building the Parkway through mountainous terrain was a monumental labor effort. The Parkway was started in the 1930’s and was finished almost 50 years later. It was the nation's first, rural parkway, connecting Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina.

Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain is 5,946 feet above sea level and is operated as a scenic travel attraction. It is one of the world’s most environmentally diverse nature preserves. Marvel at the fantastic 360-degree views of mountain ridge after mountain ridge cascading to the horizon.

The attraction has environmental habitats for native wildlife including bears, cougars, otters, Bald and Golden eagles, and deer. There is also a Natural History Museum that houses more than two dozen excellent exhibits designed to educate guests about the natural history of Grandfather Mountain and the surrounding region. The principal designer of the exhibits for the Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum was Dr. Rolland Hower, former Chief of Natural History Exhibits for the Smithsonian Institution.

Okay, that’s enough about the area around Haven Heights. Just a quick word or two about the property! We are still a family run business that does not use high pressure sales techniques to sell our lots. We want happy people who will enjoy the NC mountain Property that we offer at Haven Heights. Check out our prices and you will find that we are selling lots below what others have to sell. Our subdivision is ideally located close to Interstate 40 so that travel times to other major points of interest and cities is kept to a minimum.

The town of Marion, NC is five minutes away so you are close to shopping, Home improvement stores and other amenities. Marion also has a great hospital which is part of the Mission group so you are connected to a association that will be able to meet all medical needs.

HAVEN HEIGHTS SUBDIVISION

Well, knock on wood, we have had a mild winter up to this point! Not as much rain as we would like to see in the North Carolina Mountain Real Estate, but we still have time to play catch up with that situation. I am starting to see bigger garden plots being plowed by land owners in the rural areas of McDowell county, must be a sign of the times. The garden centers are putting out seeds and planting potatoes for sale so it is getting close to planting time!

I am also starting to see some daffodils popping up here and there. The Western North Carolina landscape is beginning to come alive again. The property at Haven Heights is also coming alive again. A new home has been started on lot #40. The owners are anxious to see those great views of the North Carolina Mountains from their very own home on top of the hill at Lot 40! The homes foundation is finished and the subflooring is complete. The walls should be up this week as well.

Joy Nash has been in contact with the 911 addressing coordinator to have all of the lots in our subdivision given proper and permanent addresses. Up to this point each lot owner has had to obtain the address for their lot as they were purchased. Now the address will be on record before the lots are bought. This will be a plus for clients who buy North Carolina Real Estate at Haven Heights.

NEW DELTEC HOME NEARING COMPLETION

Lots 82 & 83 are owned by a couple who are building a Deltec home. This home is fabricated in a factory located in Asheville. The sections are then brought to the building site and assembled into the house that you see in this picture. The build time is greatly reduced and the home is dried in very quickly so that the weather does not affect the building materials. Gail and I went to the factory tour and we were very impressed with the quality and workmanship of these homes. They also have a finished model home located in Asheville. Stop by and see David Ledford. He is the local rep for Deltec and a genuine nice guy. He can be reached at 1-800-642-2508 cell 828-243-2295 or email him at

This is Magic Creek Lane. It is a heavily wooded area and it is truly a magical place!

HAVEN HEIGHTS IS STILL A FAMILY RUN DEVELOPMENT

Haven Heights was started by Joy Nash and Chuck Whitnel in 2005. Chuck has been a friend of the family for so long that we all feel he is a family member. He and Mark Nash (Joy’s son) have been buddies since they were five years old.

Whitnel Properties is proud of it’s record of being a company that does not use high pressure sales techniques to sell the property at Haven Heights. We have a great subdivision and we are keeping the lot prices low in order to make them available to everyone without causing buyers finical strain.

Joy Nash (center) with her daughter Gail Vaccaro and her son Mark Nash.

Fred and Gail Vaccaro moved from San Jose California in December of 2004 and they became Real Estate Brokers right after they moved to NC. Gail is Joy’s daughter. Both have been helping Joy with the daily duties of selling and managing the development since early 2006. Fred helps in the sales of lots as well as overseeing road construction, subdivision maintenance and security. Gail handles the general bookkeeping and mortgage process as well as selling lots.
